Project Overview
This website was created for my sixth grade summer school program focused on STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics). I created this site as a place for all lesson material and so that students could continue to have access to course materials into their futures. This site served as the main communication hub for my students as well as their families. I also used this site to guide daily instruction and share links to necessary files/digital content for our time together.
Objectives
Enhance Student Learning: Provide students with easy access to materials and resources.
Increase Student Engagement: Utilize interactive content and multimedia to make learning more engaging and interactive.
Centralize Resources: Offer a single platform where students can find all necessary materials, assignments, and important information.
Support Parental Involvement: Keep parents informed and involved in their child’s education by providing access to classroom updates.
Strategies and Tools
Process
For this summer camp I was given the broad categories of each week and then had to develop the projects and link them to the learning standards for 6th grade education.
Week #1: The Great Outdoors
This section of our camp focused on natural resources, scientific method, navigation, solar power and air quality.
Week #2 : Earth, Wind, Sea and Sky
In this week we focus on the weather and then flight. Bringing in components of natural disaster and our culminating rocket project.
Week #3 : Building and Structure
This week focused on typical projects related to building but then also went into the structure of the human body and how our bodies are able to do the things we do.
Coding Projects
Lastly, I wanted to incorporate coding in the class so I provided various coding projects that students could work on each week or they could choose a larger project to work on during the entire camp.
Impact and Future Enhancements
At the end of camp I had all my students complete a feedback survey of he projects they liked and those they didn't. I also gathered their ideas for the future and their favorite takeaways from camp were. Ultimately, the goal of this program is to keep students engaged in learning during the summer and I truly believe that by allowing my students the ability to have a say in their education they all were able to take something away from this experience. I also know they all enjoy having constant access to this website and the projects that they did.
One of my favorite things about this camp was afterwards i got pictures from parents of their kids going to our class website and doing these STEM projects the rest of the summer.
